  • AISHE Report 2020 has been released today by the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
  • As per the AISHE Report 2020, maximum numbers of students are enrolled in B.A. programme followed by B.Sc. and B.Com programmes.
  • At Undergraduate level the highest number, 32.7% of students are enrolled in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences courses

All India Survey on Higher Education, AISHE Report 2020 has been released today, June 10, 2021. Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal shared the key highlights of AISHE Report 2020. It is observed that more number of students in India opted for Bachelor of Arts compared to Engineering course.

As per the AISHE Report 2020, maximum numbers of students are enrolled in B.A. programme followed by B.Sc. and B.Com programmes. 10 Programmes out of approximately 196 covers 79% of the total students enrolled in higher education. At Undergraduate level the highest number, 32.7% of students are enrolled in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences courses followed by Science 16%, Commerce 14.9% and Engineering and Technology 12.6%.

  1. The number of Institutions of National importance increased by 80%.
  2. The number of universities in the country has increased by 30.5%, from 799 in 2015-16 to 1043 in 2019-20.
  3. The number of colleges has increased by about 8.4% from 39,071 in 2015-16 to 42343 in 2019-20.
  4. The Gross Enrolment Ratio in higher education is 27.1% in 2019-20, which has seen a rise from 26.3% in 2018-19 and 24.3% in 2014-2015.
  5. The Gender Parity Index in higher education stands at 1.01 against 1.00 in 2018-19, indicating an improvement in the relative access to higher education for females than males.

AISHE Report 2020 provides key performance indicators on higher education status in the country. The continuous rise in the enrolment of the students, number of institutions, gender parity is an indicator of India's major move towards improving access, equity and quality in light of National Education Policy 2020.

There are 1043 Universities, 42343 Colleges and 11779 Stand Alone Institutions listed on AISHE web portal and out of them 1019 Universities, 39955 Colleges and 9599 Stand-alone Institutions have responded for the AISHE Report 2020.
